RV Life: Lolo Before – interior tour

Lolo the Sailing Luna Sea crew's Hurricane Home!
Hello there, Lolo! Before pics!

Welcome to Lolo!

Come on inside for a tour of Lolo, our 22 foot long 1999 Winnebago Rialta, built on the Volkswagen Eurovan chassis. We found our new Hurricane Home mid-December 2019. Her owner at the time, a VW mechanic, out grew her and was ready to pass her along. She is just exactly the tiny home on wheels we have been searching for!

Original view from the cab: those seats are LONG gone. And by long gone, I mean sitting in our shed 😉

Why such a tiny tiny home?

There was no hesitation on my part. As soon as we knew land travel was in our future, I threw Mexico on the top of my Life Goals list. Mexico – and let’s be honest, pretty much every country south of Mexico, deserves some serious exploration.

From Mayan ruins to incredible food to breath taking beaches; there is no shortage of adventures waiting for us south of the border.

What is lacking? Giant infrastructure that can accommodate large RVs. Think low, exposed power lines, narrow roads and stationary bridges.

Rather than get a bigger, more “home-like” RV, we did a little research and opted for a small Class C or large Class B. These are easier in Mexico AND have better gas mileage. So when a 1999 Winnebago Rialta popped up in Bluffton, SC – we took the short 20 minute drive to check it out. She is a perfect combination of everything we searched for!

That fridge is outta there. It was a 3 way – Propane, 12v and 110. And only occasionally worked on any of those settings…

RV Wishlist

After spending a few months in a Ford van a few years ago (#creepyvan) 3 things were on the wish list:

  • Galley: including sink, stove and fridge
  • Bathroom: including toilet AND shower
  • Toy storage!
For some reason, this one refuses to load in a larger format. But that’s the head!
The walls telescope forward, also – creating a tiny shower space. 😀

Lolo has it all! Well, minus storage. But never fear, after ripping out a couple of seats, adding drawers and a roof rack/cargo hauler, we have no doubt that we can cram just enough toys onboard to keep us entertained for entire Hurricane Seasons.

Stay tuned for upcoming posts covering the many, many Lolo items we are remodeling – including:

  • Interior and exterior paint
  • New fridge and maybe some sort of oven to replace the microwave
  • Entirely new power system with solar, lithium and relevant components
  • New bed, floors and fabrics
I mean, these fabrics are sweeeeet, but it’s time for an update.
The couches drop into a full sized bed.

Exciting things are coming! Between RV reno, RV adventures and our ongoing search for the next Luna Sea, you don’t want to miss upcoming posts! Feel free to subscribe to the blog and follow along on your favorite social media. We cannot wait to share all of the fun 😎
