Back in Grenada!
Well, we are safe and sound in Grenada – and you know what that means: It’s time to HIKE! While I didn’t get around to a blog post (yet?) about the sail down (it was an adventure in itself) you can check out a video here: Sailing St. Thomas to Grenada
Mt. Qua Qua
Mt. Qua Qua was at the top of our list of hikes to hit here in Grenada. Even though we did it 2 or 3 times when we were last here in 2018… we enjoy it that much!
We snagged a month-long scooter rental again, about a week ago. (We rented a scooter for about 6 months, last time we were here and the freedom is AMAZING. I highly recommend renting from Fast Manicou. ) We’ve been running errands and reacquainting ourselves in general with Grenada. And it definitely feels like we are “home” again. After Hurricane Elsa passed north of us (thankfully a non-event here) and the rains cleared up – it was time to get off of the boat! We rustled up Kelly and Russ from Leap of Faith (who also secured a scooter rental) grabbed our hiking shoes, and hit the trail.
Mt. Mud Mud
Yep. Mud Mud. That is the literal translation of Qua Qua. So maybe that gives you an idea of what the hike was like… Mt. Qua Qua is an out and back hike – just over 2.5 miles long. It took us 2 1/2 hours total – and that includes a decent amount of chill time lounging on top of the boulders to enjoy the view at the peak (2370+ ft elevation).
Because we had two solid days of sun (post-storm) before we headed out to Mt. Qua Qua, it actually wasn’t as muddy as we’ve seen in the past. The weather down the mountain was warm and sunny, but as we scootered up, past the cloud line, the temps dropped and it was glorious. It’s really beautiful up past the clouds. Super green and lush, with clouds drifting by on the breeze. The scooter ride up to the trail head is worth it alone. But once you get going on the trails – well, you won’t find much better views of the island.
By starting mid-morning, we were able to wrap it up and scoot back to the bottom of the mountain to enjoy lunch at the Brewery. While I absolutely had a blast hitting Mt. Qua Qua again, I have to admit that my body is still reminding me that it has been at least a year since I’ve been on a real hike. I feel like I got hit by a bus. But, you know, in a good way.
So what’s the next adventure? Tomorrow we are off to do some river tubing with a group. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be more of a Lazy River sort of adventure, and I’m totally down for the change of pace. We can pick back up on the hardcore stuff this weekend, when we either hit Mt. Carmel waterfall or do the Hash…
